Maintenance Mode and Upgrade Micro:bit Firmware

If you mess up with the Micro:bit too much, for example, pull out the USB cable during uploading programs, write your own buggy Microbit extension, short-circuit it too long, etc, your Microbit will enter the maintenance mode. The “MICROBIT” drive icon will be gone, shown as “MAINTENANCE” drive icon instead.

In maintenance mode, you cannot upload programs to it anymore.

To break the Micro:bit out of the maintenance mode, you shall re-upload its firmware.

Download its firmware here first, unzip it if needed, drag the *.hex file in the folder to the “MAINTENANCE” drive icon. After its firmware updated, the “MICROBIT” drive icon will show up again.
